Overview
Sport Buff is a real-time fan engagement extension that uses gamification to engage audiences throughout the world of sports. Having the ability to be installed on mobile phones, tablets and desktops, as well as being integrated with streaming services such as Twitch, the product is a white label which empowers partners to create unique moments and retain viewers like never before.
Our design thinking
Working closely with the in-house web, iOS and Android developers, we introduced a versatile design system that would act as the foundation for each client, across all platforms, with ease and the ability to switch between dark and light modes. Our work with Sport Buff helped them win several high-profile clients in the world of football, eSports, basketball, cricket and many more. As well as the design system, Sport Buff asked us to look at upgrading the design of their Content Management System to allow for adding new features and aligning with the latest mobile strategies.
Finished product
Due to the increased popularity and ambition of the company, the owners thought the current user interface was good but not to a standard that would help support their increasing client portfolio and achieve their business goals. Sport Buff approached Shoreditch Design Studio to initially research how their Version 1.0 could be improved. This project, being on multiple devices as well as an extension, proved to be a challenging one. The UX research here was integral to the design process and couldn’t be rushed. Due to the size of the project and where the final product was to be presented, we had to be constantly aware of the amount of space on the screen that the extension was taking up, sometimes on minimal dimensions. A lot of user testing and interviews were necessary to start any of the UI work.
Once this research was in place, we designed the UI components, keeping in mind that this is a white-label product. Therefore, whatever we create must fit all of Sports Buff’s future clients. A challenging task. But how did we achieve this? Through the creation of a white-label UI component design system.
